Trusted smallholder insurance

Our sole focus is on you.
Each smallholding is unique, which is why we are flexible in our approach to protect what is important to you.
Whether you keep livestock or grow produce, we know how much time and care goes into creating and maintaining a smallholding.
In fact, many of our team share the same rural lifestyle as you and are here to offer hands-on advice, assistance and tailored insurance that protects you.
We’re there for you:
  • Local insurance advisors who listen and give you the time to make the right choice
  • Specialist and tailored cover by people who understand what you need
  • A prompt and efficient service from our dedicated in-house Member Services and Underwriting and Claim teams

Our smallholder insurance provides:

  • Home extension cover for a smallholding up to 25 acres, within 5 miles of the home
  • £5m Public and Products liability to protect you if the smallholding is found to be at fault for injury suffered to a member of the public or damage to their property
  • Public liability extends to include exhibition of livestock and produce at shows
  • £50,000 Smallholders legal expenses
  • The option to include damage to buildings, contents and produce, including £10,000 for machinery and £5000 for produce
  • The option to include damage to livestock by a range of perils including fire, lightning, theft, worrying, straying and transit

As a mutual organisation, we’re owned by our Members, not shareholders. So, when you speak with one of our advisors, you’re not dealing with a commission-driven salesperson. You’re talking to a local specialist always ready with hands-on advice, assistance and answers you need, whenever you call on them.

We’d love to talk to you, so for further information or to arrange a quote on our farm insurance please give us or your local advisor a call. Want us to phone you? Simply click on the link and we will call you at a time that works best for you. We are always happy to help.

Frequently asked questions

What makes you different from other insurers?

We live and work across the South West and are actively involved in the farming community.  Whether it’s local agricultural events, charities, young farmers or our boots on the ground, the Field Force team visiting our Members, we strive to gain a better understanding of our Members and potential sector challenges.

Working in your local area makes us easily accessible and better placed to provide an excellent service compared to other remote insurance companies.  Our Members are at the heart of everything we do and we strive to ensure they always know where they stand with us.

What is so special about being a Mutual company?

We have no shareholders and are owned by our Members. So any money that would otherwise be spent on dividend payments to shareholders is retained in the business, helping us continually improve our services.

That’s why we really can put our Members first at all times. This means a better service for you, based on our principles of fairness, honesty and transparency.

If I insure with Cornish Mutual will you put up the premiums after I become a Member?

Cornish Mutual is committed to keeping premium rates as consistent as possible from year to year reflecting individual exposures and claims experience.
