Protect one of your most valuable assets

Fermentation can cause the internal temperature of hay bales to rise rapidly in less than 24 hours, leading to spontaneous ignition and severe fire damage.

HAYTECH is a system designed to reduce fire risks, with wireless probes placed in the bales providing 24/7 real-time hay temperature monitoring and an early warning system. If the internal bale temperature rises to a dangerous level, a text alert is sent out in time to prevent a potential fire.

The Haytech-10 system includes:

  • 10 wireless temperature probes
  • 1 base station for connectivity
  • Real time temperature monitoring on your PC, smartphone or tablet
  • Rising temperature alerts via SMS or email
  • Hay quality tracing
  • Configurable alert levels
  • Easy installation
  • Maintenance free
  • Guards your hay 24/7

Even if bales don’t ignite, high temperatures damage the nutritional value of hay, so knowing the quality of your hay helps when selling bales or selecting the best forage for your livestock.

Rewilding

Often thought of as simply ‘shutting the gate’ on a piece of land, farming consultant Jim Bliss explains why rewilding requires an active approach in the UK, while regenerative agronomist Hugo Ellis describes it as driving for balance and diversity in habitats and farm enterprises. And livestock, they say, are essential. On his Nuffield travels, Jim Bliss saw some spectacular examples of what he calls ‘passive’ rewilding, where stock had been removed from the land and nature returned – Patagonia National Park being one. But the UK doesn’t have the space to take this approach. “So, it's much better to have active rewilding, which does involve farming, just in a more nuanced way, where it's all about diversity,” says Jim.
