Frequently asked questions

Do you underwrite your own farm diversification policies?

Yes, however please note the Farm Legal Expenses cover is underwritten by ARAG Legal Expenses Insurance Company.

As a business owner do I need Employers’ Liability?

If you employ people under a contract of service or apprenticeship it is a legal requirement for most UK businesses to have employers liability insurance. This extends to include casual, temporary and volunteer workers in addition to full and part-time workers.

What insurance options are available for farm diversification?

Diversification activities can be covered either in conjunction with your farm insurance policy or through a commercial combined policy, depending on how significant the diversified activity is in relation to your core farming operations.

If the diversification activity is incidental to your farming, it can usually be accommodated within your existing farm policy.

If the diversification activity has become more substantial than your farming activity, or operates as a separate commercial enterprise, a stand alone Commercial Combined policy may be more appropriate.

What types of activities are considered farm diversification?

Farm diversification can include a wide range of non traditional farming activities. Examples include:

•    Farm shops
•    DIY livery
•    Camping or glamping sites

Because diversification varies widely from one business to another, we recommend contacting us to discuss your specific plans so we can ensure the correct cover is in place.
