Cornish Mutual introduces a fresh Field Force team to support farms and businesses with their insurance needs across Cornwall.
Jo Hawkins, Hayley Truscott, Karen White and Jackie Coutts are the company’s ‘boots on the ground’, who visit Members to offer insurance advice.
All four are highly trained insurance professionals with over 40 years’ combined experience. They are expanding the areas they cover following the recent retirements of long-serving Field Force members Joan Ball and Jeff Kincaid.
Jo, who will be covering the Redruth, Camborne, Hayle, St Ives, Penzance and Lands End area, describes joining the Field Force team as a “dream come true”. She has been working at Cornish Mutual for six years, first on a temporary training and recruitment project before moving into several different roles on a permanent basis. She has spent the last two years out in the field working in the business development team.
She said: “For me, the best part about this position is getting to develop long-term relationships with Members. It’s a lovely job about people and building trust with them.
“People look to us for honest advice. I think it is a very interesting team to work in and I always give the best advice I can to help protect our Members.
“I feel very lucky and privileged to have been appointed to this role. I can see myself staying here until I retire!”
Hayley was also part of the new business team prior to taking on her Field Force role, covering Truro, Par, St Austell, Mevagissey, Lostwithiel, Newquay and Bodmin. Before that she worked as an underwriter for Cornish Mutual for seven years.
Hayley said: “It has been really exciting to transition over to the Field Force team. In my previous role, I had the opportunity to connect with Members over the phone, but I am looking forward to being able to build long-term relationships with people.
“This job is a really great fit for me, it seems so natural. I enjoy meeting people, they seem to open up so much more when you meet them face-to-face. Our Members are rightly proud of their farms and businesses, and being in the Field Force gives you the chance to get to know the Member, their families and the business behind it.”
Karen, who will be looking after Members in the Truro and St Agnes area, first started working for Cornish Mutual back in 1980, when she was 17. She has worked for the organisation on and off in various roles. Her most recent, and longest, stint with Cornish Mutual began in 2006.
She said: “I actually joined the Field Force team in 2014, going out to wherever I was needed across Cornwall to cover sickness, holiday and to generally help out. This is the first time that I have had my own area to look after and I am really looking forward to getting my teeth into the role.
“I am a people person. I like helping people with all their insurance needs and I am looking forward to getting to know the Members living and working in and around Truro.”
Jackie Coutts has been a member of the Field Force team in other parts of Cornwall for the past 16 years, but a recent house move means that she now supports farms and businesses in Falmouth, Helston, Truro, Penryn and Stithians.
She said: “I am from a farming background, I am a farmer’s daughter, so this is an ideal job for me. I like working face-to-face with Members, every customer is different. This is a really lovely job, and I will bring excellent customer service and will be on hand to help and support our Members, just as I have done in other areas of Cornwall.
“It’s great to get out to see our Members and their businesses. For me, part of that is seeing the younger generations grow up, take on responsibilities and share new, different ideas for their businesses.”
