Cornish Mutual will once again be the region’s call centre for Red Nose Day 2017, when Comic Relief will be taking over screens across the nation this Friday, March 24, asking people to ‘make your laugh matter’.

The companies call centre at its Truro headquarters will represent the South West on the big night, providing a focal point for the region’s fundraising efforts as well as handling donation calls from across the UK. During the day Cornish Mutual will be joined by BBC Radio and Pirate FM, who will be broadcasting live.

More than 100 volunteers from the organisation and other local businesses will be manning the phone-lines, and putting the fun into fundraising by hosting a range of activities throughout the
evening. People can follow all the action on the night on Cornish Mutual’s Twitter and Facebook pages.

Over the past few weeks, the insurer has been running a host of fundraising events, including an exhausting 5-hour Zumba fitness class on Truro’s Lemon Quay, a twelve hour ‘bowlathon’ at Truro Bowl, a pub quiz in conjunction with Skinner’s Brewery, and a bucket collection at the Tesco store in Truro. The insurer has also been running a joke competition with local schoolchildren between the ages of 6-8 and 9-12 to get involved and enter their best gags.

Alan Goddard, managing director for Cornish Mutual, said: “We are very proud to be the South West call centre for Red Nose Day again after a hugely successful debut in 2015. Last time we raised more than £5,000 just from our own fundraising activities, before and during the evening, which was a great achievement. We are already planning a fun-filled schedule this Friday to try and beat that figure.”

Red Nose Day comes along every two years and combines two very British things: having a laugh and helping others. Thanks to the generosity of the great British public, Comic Relief has raised over £1 billion which has gone towards changing the lives of people in the UK and across the world’s poorest communities.
