Tell us a bit about your role at Cornish Mutual/describe a typical day
I work as part of the Field Force team, providing excellent service to our Members within the mid Cornwall region. Day to day you will find me visiting businesses to discuss how we can assist and quote for insurance, as well as sitting down with our existing Members with a cup of tea and going through their existing covers to ensure their insurance works in the best possible way for their business.
What do you enjoy most about your role at Cornish Mutual?
Meeting people! It’s such an honour to be able to get a direct insight into our Members’ livelihoods, whether it’s a fifth-generation dairy farmer or a motor trader setting up a workshop for the first time.
When did you join the company and what attracted you to working for Cornish Mutual?
I joined Cornish Mutual in 2011, with little insurance knowledge. The company has an immersive induction programme which puts you at ease straight away and focuses on developing your individual skills to pave your career path.
What makes Cornish Mutual a great place to work?
I can easily say I work for the best company in the South West. I have friendly and supportive colleagues and Cornish Mutual is an employer that puts your training and development at the top of the agenda, offers a generous package, and an honest approach to insurance – what more could you need?!
What skills do you need to do your job well?
This job is all about relationships. You need to have people skills to be able to sit down with Members from all different backgrounds. The only other necessity is to be honest and to work with integrity – these are the things that cannot be taught in the classroom and are at the core of Cornish Mutual’s culture.
What is your career highlight to date?
A personal win for me was reaching my Insurance Diploma qualification after nearly two years of starting my studies. I’m also lucky enough to be in a position where I gain value in my everyday work life by helping our Members take comfort in knowing their business is in safe hands for insurance – it’s all the positive interactions that add up to real job satisfaction.
How does it feel to be nominated for the 30 Under 30 Competition?
It’s humbling to be recognised as an up and coming young talent and it always great to feel rewarded when you put 100% into your career. I am proud to live and work in the local community and am pleased to be a part of celebrating people in Cornwall.
