How long after a policy lapses or is cancelled does the No Claims Discount remain effective?

For 2 years from the date of lapsing or cancellation.

Doesn’t Cornish Mutual just insure farmers?

Since 1999, we have gained many Members outside agriculture who recognise the advantages of dealing with a local, service–focused insurance company. We now offer a wider range of insurances including Home, Let Property, and Small business to home owners and business owners in Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset.

Do you use external companies for fire and water damage claims?

Yes, we use experienced companies that specialise in fire and water damage.

For emergencies you can contact Richfords on 01209 722 522 or Rainbow on 01623 422488 www.rainbow– who will assist you in pumping out flood waters or saving property which has suffered fire or smoke damage.

The cost of instructing either of the above companies without prior authorisation of Cornish Mutual would be down to the Member, but where appropriate insurance cover is in place, these costs would be included in the claim settlement.

We often engage the services of independent loss adjusters to assist you in ensuring that your claim is fully and fairly settled in accordance with the insurance cover you have in place.

Do you underwrite your own policies?

Yes, except for Legal Expenses where we use a company called ARAG.


Do you replace lost or damaged property or can I buy my own?

If you are interested in receiving a claims settlement payment from us, rather than asking us to pay for works undertaken, then please let us know. In most cases we can provide a claim settlement cheque so that you can make your own decision as to whether to replace on a like for like basis or use the payment towards purchasing an improved model.

Do you provide travel insurance?

No, we don’t provide travel insurance.

Do you provide introductory discounts and offers?

We always offer our best price and don’t ever make introductory offers or discounts. This is because we like to offer everyone a fair price at all times, and we don’t think it is fair to offer introductory offers to new customers at the expense of our existing customers. So we operate a consistent pricing approach which our Members (customers) value.

Do you provide a courtesy car irrespective of fault or if my car is a write off?

Our recommended motor repairers can provide a courtesy car whilst yours is undergoing repair, but not if it is written off.
