Smallholder Insurance

As more people either downsize their farming activities or establish smallholdings, Cornish Mutual has recognised that we need to meet the growing need for a smallholder insurance.

Farm

Essentially an adaptation of our farm insurance product, our smallholder insurance can be tailored to the needs of those with less land, premises and livestock than a traditional farm.

If your smallholding is less than 50 acres, we can arrange for one of our local Insurance Inspectors to visit you and discuss your own individual insurance needs. We also can accommodate larger acreages if required, under our farm policy.

Public & Products Liability Cover

As with all our insurance products, the key cover for our smallholder insurance is protection against risks that, if they occur, would threaten the survival of your business. We strongly recommend that every smallholder should have public liability cover to protect them against claims for damage or injury to persons or their property which can be attributed to their negligence - indeed for some of our policies, this cover is in fact compulsory.

Employers' Liability Cover

Although most smallholders do not employ people, our smallholder insurance does include employers' liability cover as an option. If you employ people on your smallholding, this cover will protect you should one of them be injured and it is proved that it was your responsibility.

Although the law does not specifically require you to have employers' liability insurance for close relatives, it is always advisable to take out cover for everyone you employ. This way, should an accident happen, your relative can receive the same compensation as any other worker.

Property & Vehicle Cover

Our property insurance offers cover for any agricultural buildings, livestock, produce, fuels and fertilizers, animal feed, machinery and vehicles - whether agricultural or otherwise - you may have, and can be tailored to your own individual needs.

There are various covers and excess level options available. For example, our livestock insurance has choices which include fire, lightning, accidental injury, death, straying, transit or certain diseases. We can also insure specific pedigree animals such as sheep, rams and bulls.
