Wooldown Farm Holiday Cottages
Wooldown Holiday Cottages in Marhamchurch, run by second generation Cornish Mutual Members Roger and Susan Blewett, offers visitors panoramic views of the North Cornwall coast and countryside.
Roger, a Cornish Mutual Member for 21
years took over the running of Wooldown from his parents in 1988
and in doing so also took on the family insurances; "As far as I
know my parents have always been with Cornish Mutual and we have
carried that on" Roger said.
Wooldown, originally run as a full board guest house and livestock
dealing business by Rogers parents, now includes 12 holiday
cottages providing a variety of accommodation for families and
couples throughout the year.
Roger and Susan ceased milking of their dairy herd in 2003 and
following the sale of the remaining stock, five luxury cottages
aimed at romantic short breaks for couples were converted from the
milking parlour and dairy last year. Couples are now able to book
their holiday online, arriving and departing on the dates that suit
them. "The short breaks have really taken off for us, they can view
the availability on our website and fit themselves in" Susan
explained. "We aim to make sure that everything is taken care of
during their stay, from a mid week full clean to holistic
treatments - it is their break to relax and we believe this is why
many that visit us keep coming back".
The development of the cottages at Wooldown has been a family
affair, "I don't think we could have done it without the support of
the family. Our four boys have all helped out at various stages
with the website, brochures, planning and general ideas" Roger
said.
"They have always been happy to help out with everything - even
the cleaning! They have been a real help and it has been great to
have the whole family involved" Susan added.
Cornish Mutual provides Roger and Susan with Farm, Home,
Agricultural Fleet and Let Property Insurance cover.
Roger said "Having a local Insurance Inspector makes everything
easy to process. If there is ever a problem it is good to have
someone you can call quickly and knows who and where you are - they
understand your situation".
Their local Insurance Inspector Helen Newton's contact with Roger
and Susan is not just limited to renewal dates and claims; "We
would see Helen every week when we went to Holsworthy Market and
that was a great contact point to discuss everything that is going
on and even make a payment" Roger explained.
Helen added "Keeping in touch with your Members and up to date
with their insurance requirements is a key aspect of being an
Insurance Inspector with Cornish Mutual. Local markets are well
attended by the agricultural community and it is a great
opportunity to see your Members and provide a personal
service".
