Neil and Julia
Phillips, of Sunnyside Farm, Restronguet near Falmouth have become
what is believed to be the first ever winner of the 'Champion
Sheep' class at three Cornish Fatstock shows this year.
The couple have been breeding Texel sheep for breeding stock for
about 5 years, with just four commercial ewes used to produce
fatstock lambs. The fatstock lambs are shown as a pair, with one
pair winning Championship trophies at Helston, Wadebridge and Truro
Fatstock shows his year. Julia says, "We don't think anyone has
ever had Champion Sheep at all three shows before, so we're very
proud of our achievement."
Julia and husband Neil farm around 65 acres in the beautiful Fal
Estuary countryside, tending 70 sheep and around 2,500 free range
hens.
Cornish
Mutual provide the Phillips family with a range of insurance
policies, including livestock cover, public liability and commercial
combined. Local Insurance Inspector Roger Hawkings (pictured with
Julia and Neil) visited the Phillips' on their farm, in order to
get a good understanding of their needs when quoting for their
insurances. Roger maintains regular contact with the family to
ensure that they continue to have the right cover. Julia says,
"We've been with Cornish Mutual since we started a contracting
business in 1986, and my parents have always had insurance with the
company. We don't contract any more, but we've always had good
service from Cornish Mutual and we like the fact that they're
local. It's nice that Roger can come out and see us - we see him a
couple of times a year. We know he's only on the other end of the
'phone if we have any queries or need his advice regarding one of
our policies."
During their time with Cornish Mutual, Julia and Neil have had
to make several claims: "We had to make one or two claims when we
were contracting - but it was all absolutely fine. We couldn't ask
for a better service." Roger adds, "Our claims service is something
we are very proud of at Cornish Mutual. We always seek to resolve
claims as quickly and efficiently as possible."
When Roger heard about the Phillips' three-times Champion Sheep,
he thought they deserved a mention; "I think it's important to
shout about our Members' achievements. This sort of thing doesn't
happen every day, and Julia and Neil should be very proud."
