Important Claims Advice

If you are unfortunate enough to experience a situation where you need to make a claim, there are a few things we recommend in order to help the process run smoothly…

Tractor If you encounter an event which means you might need to make a claim there are a few things that you can consider doing in order to help the claims process.

The most important consideration is your safety. Only if it is safe to do so secure the site of the incident so that no-one else can be injured and/or no further damage can be caused.

Please remember that we might ask for evidence, that the incident has taken place, to support the claim.

Motor Claims

Accidents
If you have been involved in a vehicle accident, try to ensure that the vehicle is moved to a safe place where it isn’t a hazard to others.

If a third party has been involved in the accident please obtain their name, contact details and the vehicle registration number. If the accident is their fault we will want to claim damages from them: this won’t be possible if we can’t contact them and your No Claims Discount may be affected.

If you have a camera or mobile phone that takes pictures, please photograph the incident, if it is safe to do so, in case we need to use it as evidence at a later date.

Windscreens
Prevention is better than cure. If you have a chip on your windscreen we would prefer that you repaired it in order to prevent a broken windscreen.

We therefore do not charge an excess if the glass does not have to be replaced so if you would like a chip repaired please contact National Mobile Windscreens on 0800 373 171 they will ask for the Policy Number and the renewal date of your Cornish Mutual Policy and arrange for a local repairer to contact you to arrange a convenient time for the chip to be repaired.

Household Claims

If an item in your house is damaged, for instance a window is broken, please ensure the area is secured so that the rest of your property is kept safe and nobody is at risk from hurting themselves.

It is important that you save any damaged items, for example a carpet damaged by flooding, in case we need to inspect it.

We are happy for you to clean up, or take other steps to rectify the situation, but we might ask to see evidence to prove that the damaged item existed or the accident happened.
