While many other insurance companies have sold out, we are proud to retain our Mutual status. We are owned by our Members, and we exist to give them an excellent service – not to raise profits for shareholders.
Cornish Mutual was established in 1903 by a group of local farmers.
For 96 years, the company grew, insuring farms in the South West. However, our Members also wanted family and friends to benefit from our unique approach… so since 1999 we have broadened our offering to cover people and businesses in wider rural communities, while still retaining our values and local outlook.
Modern insurance; time-honoured values
Even today, we remain a Mutual company with no shareholders. We exist purely to provide an excellent service.
This is important to us, because it means our Members’ interests are at the heart of everything we do. We can offer an honest and open approach to insurance, fair claims process and local, personal service.
We are under no pressure to provide quick returns for investors. Instead, we can take a long-term view and our Members share the benefits of our success.
Having your say
As we are owned by our Members, we are also answerable to them. Each year we hold our Annual General Meeting in a different part of the region, giving as many Members as possible their chance to play a part in running their company.
