South West rural insurer Cornish Mutual
has teamed up with Cornwall Food & Drink to launch 'Food
Adventures', an exciting series of bite-sized guides to Cornwall's
hidden gems and fantastic food producers.
The new online guides will introduce people to the gastronomic
delights of Cornwall's fabulous food and drink industry, taking in
trips to local butchers, bakers, delicatessens, farm shops, brewers
and cafés where visitors can find out more about food and drink
made right here on our doorstep.
The Food Adventures, available online at www.cornwallfoodanddrink.co.uk, were developed
as part of a team building exercise for Cornish Mutual staff based
in Truro, which was managed by the team at Cornwall Food &
Drink.
At the launch, Alan Goddard, managing director of Cornish Mutual,
said: "We split the company into teams and challenged them to go
out and discover new places and experience the great food and drink
that Cornwall has to offer.
"This is a really exciting initiative for us to be involved in.
The county has some first-class culinary delights, coupled with
passionate chefs and local producers - definitely something worth
promoting and celebrating. We are proud to be part of this project
and our staff were really enthusiastic about it, they came back
with some fantastic suggestions - it was very hard to pick the
best!
"We are now taking it one step further and encouraging more people
in Cornwall to do the same. By publishing the Food Adventures
online we are creating a direct link between the public and the
producers and retailers of top quality products."
The Food Adventures take you across Cornwall on five fantastic
foodie days out, guiding visitors through picturesque villages,
dramatic coastlines and of course giving suggestions of where to
stop for a Cornish cream tea or stock up on delicious local produce
along the way.
Angie Coombs, who manages the Duchy of Cornwall Nursery Café,
which was recently named best café in the South West and is one of
the stops highlighted by the Food Adventures, commented: "The Food
Adventures are a fantastic way for us to help promote the great
local produce that is here in Cornwall, the more we can encourage
customers to buy from local producers, the better."
Ruth Huxley, Director of Cornwall Food & Drink added: "Food
and drink is so important to tourism and the Cornish economy and
we're committed to making sure that as many people as possible have
every opportunity to enjoy it. The Food Adventures will help people
do that."
